Star Wars Battlefront 2 was announced at the end of last week and since then, there has been quite a bit of news about this upcoming game. To make matters more simple, we’ve compiled everything that we know about the game.
The single player camopaign is set at the end of the Return of the Jedi movie. It covers the 30 year gap between the movie and The Force Awakens. It’s been confirmed that the new Battlefront game is in fact canon and is considered as part of the official Star Wars story by Lucasfilm.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 follows Iden Versio, an Imperial Commander who is trying to avenge the Emperor after the destruction of the Death Star. While most of the story will be told from the Empire’s perspective, some missions will let players control popular Jedi characters such as Luike Skywalker.
The writers for the new game have also been confirmed. The two main writers are Walt Willians and Mirch Dyer. Walt Williams is best known for writing the script for Spec Ops: The Line while Mitch Dyer is a former IGN editor.
It’s thought that the multiplayer for this game will be very similar to the one seen in the first game. Matches will allow up to 40 players in one instance and the game will feature a class system for the Stormtroopers so players can customize their character.
As expected, there will also be Heroes in the game who are signifigant characters from the Star Wars world. Here are the confirmed Heroes so far:
• Darth Maul
• Luke Sywalker
• Kylo Ren
In addition to Heroes, there will also be a variety of vehicles in the game which players can customize and upgrade. There will be range of vehicles in the game including special “Hero Ships” such as the Millennium Falcon.
Earlier this week it was revealed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 would have offline co-op for local play but it’s now been revealed that this is exclusive to console. There will be no offline co-op support for the PC version of the game. This is exactly the same as the 2015 Battlefront game which also has offline co-op for consoles but not PC.
Publisher EA has confirmed that the upcoming Star Wars game will not have Season Pass. The game will have “something different” instead. The aim is to allow players to play the game longer and be more invested without there being a “framented community”. This most likely means that all DLC maps will be free for all players however, EA hasn’t confirmed this just yet.
What EA has confirmed however is that there will be no season pass for this game. It will be interesting to see what the publisher does in regards to DLC for the next Star Wars game.
A post on the Battlefront 2 website confirms that players who are subscribed to Origin/EA Access will get headstart to the game. They will be able to play the game from November 9th when the game is due for release on November 17th.
This is a huge headstart for the game considering most EA/Origin Access games only have a 5 day headstart over the general release for that game.
In addition to this, the Deluxe Edition of the game is coming with a 3 days headstart over the general release version. Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be unlocked on November 14th for those who havwe pre-ordered the game. All progress made during the time before the general release will be saved and carried forwards to the full release version of the game.
